On the flip side, even the smartest localities in South Kolkata had specific layouts and infrastructure when Rajarhat and New Town weren’t considered townships. The existing infrastructure was just reshaped to fit the requirements of residents. No matter how fast these prime South Kolkata locations evolve, it’s hard for them to match the level of New Town and Rajarhat, at least infrastructure-wise. New Town is home to the biggest IT parks and business hubs in Kolkata. In fact, the township was planned and executed to accommodate most of the promising tech campuses, IT parks, and office spaces. It’s now considered the emerging IT hub of Kolkata after Salt Lake. Also, Salt Lake is relatively closer to New Town and Rajarhat than South Kolkata destinations. 

Since it’s really difficult to commute to New Town and Salt Lake from distant South Kolkata locations, IT employees prefer buying homes in nearby areas. Besides IT firms, the number of other types of businesses and offices is also increasing surprisingly, attracting more potential residents. This is a key reason for every big real estate company in Kolkata to be keen on developing expensive projects in Rajarhat and New Town.
